Peninsular War Nucleus

The nucleus of the Peninsular War collection is a museum space that houses a part of the collection gathered by Frederico Pinto Basto, at the beginning of the 20th Century, dedicated to the period of the French invasions and the Napoleonic Wars. It is particularly focused on the conflict that occurred in the Iberian peninsula between 1808 and 1814.
The permanent exhibition includes a rare set of pieces of iconography, cartography, armoury, documentation of that period and a scale model of the first defensive line of the town of Torres Vedras.
With only a part of the entire collection being exhibited, which due to the quality of its collection is unique in the country, it is intended to characterize the period by showing this important legacy.
The museum nucleus is located in the modern building of the “Espaço Ó”, located in Largo de São Marcos, in Gaeiras, 1 km from the town of Óbidos and 5 km from the Roliça battlefield.

Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Closed: Saturday and Sunday
*from the 9th of August to the 13th of August the exhibition will be closed.
