In addition to the walls and wonderful churches, Óbidos has a set of places where you can get in touch with the rich heritage of the town, such as the Municipal Museum of Óbidos, the Parish Museum of Saint John the Baptist, the Abílio de Mattos e Silva Museum, and NovaOgiva Gallery. These places make part of the Óbidos Network of Museums and Galleries.
From the old painting by Josefa de Óbidos, André Reinoso or Diogo Teixeira to the painting by artists like Eduardo Malta and Abílio de Mattos e Silva, who made Óbidos their place of residence for much of the 20th century, Óbidos is the memory of an intense and remarkable artistic experience. The spaces of the Network of Museums and Galleries put into dialogue the fantastic heritage of this secular town, demonstrating how History acted on it, and the Present marked by the gallery exhibitions, where artists, young and established, demonstrate the dimension reached by Contemporary Art.
