South arm of the Lagoon, in this place you can see the little grebe, the white-faced cormorant and the heron. During autumn migratory passages this is a good place to observe the Galician curlew.
Further west, next to the inlet of the Lagoon, is the Bom Sucesso area. Here the substrate is mainly sandy and this is a place for watch gulls, especially the black-backed gull and the gull.
The surrounding sands are a good place to look for the interrupted collared sandpiper. The islets in the middle of the lagoon are sometimes used by small groups of oystercatchers.
Arelho, in the winter, the lands next to the aviation runway are frequented by the abib and the heron and also by some passerines, such as the laverca, the little prairie and the juncos weasel, while shrub vegetation is frequented by small flocks of seals, greenfinches and goldfinches.
Foz do Rio Real, place of concentration of water birds allowing us to observe the white-faced cormorant, the mallard and several species of waders, including the oystercatcherbird, the gray plover, the curlew and the fuselo. Occasionally small flocks of flamingos appear here. In winter, this is a place to observe the black-necked grebe and the rare black-fronted goose and mute swan have already been observed here.
Poça do Vau, in the spring is a place of occurrence of the red heron, the red-tailed harrier and of the caniços.
The north bank can also be explored from Foz do Arelho. It is possible to observe the little egret and the screech and proceeding towards the interior the road passes close to the Barrosa branch, which is a place of regular occurrence of flamingos.
