“Bateira” is the typical boat used by both fishermen and shellfish gatherers in the Óbidos Lagoon. They are characterized by being open deck vessels. In the past, they were widely used to collect slime. Currently “bateiras” can already have two engines (and operate on gasoline) a main and an auxiliary one that can be used in case of breakdown. For their maintenance, which happens every two years, the batteries are immersed in water when they are dry, and then they can be painted.
